£100 off a new Mac

RecycleI have just received an email from Stormfront, they are an authorised premium reseller of Apple products.  Currently they are offering £100 off a new Mac when you trade in your old machine regardless of the manufacturer, most people have an old PC/laptop knocking around that is never use.  This does not apply to iOS devices, in the terms and conditions it says 

"£100 offer applies to Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac. Offer does not include purchases of the Mac mini"

So although the offer is quite limited, it maybe worth visiting http://www.stormfront.co.uk to check if there is a store near you if you are thinking of getting a new laptop.

Twitter account hacked

Recently I have had about six DM's from people saying "Hi someone is saying horrible rumours about you.." it is then followed by a link.

As there seems to be more of this happening, I have got this link below from twitter which has the steps to follow if you think your account has been compromised.  I hope this helps out, I have tried to contact some of the people who have been compromised, a couple replied and thanked me for trying to help the other just ignored it.

Send to Kindle

Send To KindleI have just installed this application on both my Mac and my Windows laptop.  It's a great way to get your own documents etc onto your kindle device, or in my case the kindle application on the iPad.

It's incredibly simple to use, on the windows side you just select your file or files, then right click and select "Send to Kindle".  You also can use the print dialog box, all you need to so is select the printer "Send to Kindle"

On the Mac version you can open the applications and drag your files into it or just drag the files to the dock icon.  Also on the Mac side you have the option to use select the printer "Send to Kindle" from the print dialog box.

So now you can store your documents in evernote and/or you can keep them on your kindle, you can just scan to pdf and send it away.

Skydrive Storage

Microsoft SkydriveFrom now on if you sign up to Microsoft's Skydrive, you will be getting 7Gb of storage instead of the 25Gb they used to offer you once you sign up.  If you are an existing customer then you are being given a free upgrade to 25Gb of storage but you have to visit the skydrive site to claim your free upgrade, you need to do so using this following link. 

As well as your free upgrade, you can also pay for additional storage, the options are

• Skydrive +20 £6/Year Add 20Gb to your free storage
• Skydrive +50 £16/Year Add 50Gb to your free storage
• Skydrive +100 £32/Year Add 100Gb to your free storage.

Most users will already use a service like dropbox, but this may be a serious competitor.  Now it has been released onto the desktop, it creates a folder like dropbox and files and folders copied into this will automatically be synchronised.  The upgrade pricing is a lot cheaper to upgrade than the current dropbox prices.

Mac Updates

There has been two small updates recently to Mac OS one was :

Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.12

This update adds RAW image compatibility for the following camera to Aperture 3 and iPhoto '11:

• Canon EOS 5D Mark III

The other was a bit more important:

This Java security update removes the most common variants of the Flashback malware.

This update also configures the Java web plug-in to disable the automatic execution of Java applets. Users may re-enable automatic execution of Java applets using the Java Preferences application. If the Java web plug-in detects that no applets have been run for an extended period of time it will again disable Java applets.

This update is recommended for all Mac users with Java installed.

I would recommend you install the latest Java Security update as soon as can, although you may not be affected, better to be safe than sorry.
