So recently on my iPad I had a phantom mail. The mail icon always showed that I had one mail even though there were none in the Inboxes.
This one mail was also showing in the mail client as having one mail. Very annoying as I like to see it plain with no red numbers on the icons.
I did not want to have to delete and re-add the account as most places were suggesting, seemed like a bit of a pain in the arse.
Luckily, this was resolved with some nice simple tasks. Follow the simple steps and then the phantom number was cleared.
Go to Settings
Then go to Mail
Select, Accounts
I navigated to Hotmail, this was the problem account
Untick mail, let this disconnect and clear out.
Once that is finished then tick mail again.
This then removed the red one and I was clear once more. I hope this help if you have this happen to you.
