So AWS had a major outage

Today I was involved with quite a large outage, and this was because AWS had quite a major problem, It appeared the whole eu-west-1 region was out.

This must of affected thousands of people who have machines are services hosted here, yes, good design says you should be spread across regions but still many small to medium business may not of had this, even some larger companies may not of thought of this.

I will be interested in seeing Amazon’s report on today’s issue, their selling point is being up all the time. They must have two or three of everything from power feeds to carriers to everything you can imagine so for this large amount of customers to be down for such a long period of time ( 3 hours in my experience) this must of been a major outage, and will be a problem for them,

Lots of reports about peoples Alexa being down for a longer period throughout the day, so a broad range of customers all affected today, with more and more appliances being dependant on the service, outages like today might make people think, especailly as more and more home tech is being linked in “smart” homes.
