Apple have annnounced that in the next iOS release due out that the will allow the users to disable the slowdown fetaure the introduced before.
So now the oldest devices that get the upgrade might still have the same speed but will find possible that with the new iOS features that the battery may not last as long.
I think giving users the option to decide is the best thing to do, let the users decide don't dictate what is good for them.
