iPad 2 and iOS5 Security flaw
Monday, October 24, 2011 at 7:19AM I heard about this over the weekend, so I thought I would try it out to see how bad this is. First off this only affects the iPad 2 running iOS5.
To test this out for your self you will need to have passcode set on your iPad and a Smart Cover case, which I am assuming is the majority of iPad 2 owners out there.
Steps to reproduce this are
- Open your smart cover case so you are faced with the passcode login screen
- Hold the power button until you see the slide to power off at the top
- Close the smart cover case
- Open the smart cover case
- Click Cancel
Then you will see you have bypassed the passcode and you are into the iPad.
An important point, when I tested this, NO applications would open at all no Mail, Safari, Calendar or any downloaded application, however I was able to delete applications from the device. So although some one may not be able to see your mails or contacts they will be able to remove all of your applications, so you would lose all your game save data. I am sure there will be a patch shortly for this bug.
As always I am always interested in your thoughts so if you have any comments or feedback then please feel free to add any comments, or you can mail me here.
