Below are a few options to take a screen shot on your Mac, the files should be on your desktop once you have taken them.

To take a screenshot on a Mac, use keyboard shortcuts: Command-Shift-3 for the full screen, Command-Shift-4 to select an area, or Command-Shift-5 for advanced options like recording. Screenshots are saved as PNG files to the desktop by default.
