Ransom Emails on the rise

There seems to be an increase on the ransomware emails that are being sent. You have probably all had one and they are praying on the facts that people may visit certain adult sites, and the mails look very genuine.

They are normally along the lines of,

“You are my victim, when you were looking recently at certain adult videos, nice taste by the way, but the video was infected with malware, which allowed me to take over your camera and all your contacts, if you don’t pay X amount in X time then all your contacts will see the video of you watching it”

My Mother in law got one the other day, now what amazed her was obviously she has not been visiting these site, however the email displayed part of her password which is what freaked her out.

I advised her to change her password immediately, which she did, and told her not to worry I doubt there will be a video of her watching porn sent to all her contacts as it states.

I have had several of the mails, not had any password details in there, but what I do is report the Bitcoin address, if you go to a site like https://bitcoinwhoswho.com/login.

This will allow you to look at the Wallet and see if its been reported as spam, on most it will show an empty wallet and no transactions, then you can report it. I am sure most are ignored but I am sure that many people are scared when they see the mail and pay up.

I am always interested in your thoughts so if you have any comments or feedback then please feel free to add any comments, or you can mail me  here.
