This is my full review of the Datashur secure USB Thumb drive. You can read my first impressions post of the device first if you want quick overview of my thoughts.
This is a secure USB thumb drive from istorage, to be able to access the data you need to enter in a PIN number first. This USB drive will secure your data by using AES 256-bit hardware encryption. Once you have entered the pin and the device is unlocked you have 30 seconds so you can plug it into your machine before it will autolock and you will need to re-enter your pin to be able to access your data.
It will work on any OS, so if you have Linux, Mac, Windows this will work on all of them with out any issues.
Once you disconnect the drive from your machine it autolocks the device. So you don't need to worry about people snatching the drive and inserting it in their machine, it won't be any good for them , as soon as it's unplugged it's secure.
It is very easy to use, it's not complicated, it comes with a very handy user guide, with clear and consise instructions. This comes on a small card so if you wanted to you could easily carry this around with you.
One of the best features I thought were, if you hand these out to a team then you can also set an admin pin. If you send these out with people with confidential documents or code/applications on them and they have forgotten the pin they have set on them, you can override and reset the pin so you don't have to throw the drive away, plus if people leave and say they can't remember the pin you will still be able to access and reuse the drive.
With regards to the pin you can have it from 7-15 digits.
So yes this is a big USB thumb drive to carry around (approx 8 cm long), but if you are worried about carrying around data you don't want to be in the wrong hands then this is the drive for you.
I am always interested in your thoughts so if you have any comments or feedback then please feel free to add any comments, or you can mail me here.
