Socks Proxy connection using Chrome

Google ChromeI was looking recently to connect to a SOCKS proxy through Chrome.  On Firefox it's very simple to do and I thought it would be the same on Chrome, but when looking through the settings I could not find this anywhere.

There isn't an actual setting for this, but you can do this by creating a new shortcut and tacking a bit of text on the end.

The text you need to add is below, the port may be different for you depending on which port you are using for your Tunnel.

--proxy-server="socks5://localhost:8000"

So my full shortcut, which I have called proxy_chrome is

"C:\Documents and Settings\Geekcomputers\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --proxy-server="socks5://localhost:8000"

So now I can load Chrome and surf normally on my netbook, or if I am on an open wifi, I connect back home via an SSH tunnel, and load Chrome to connect to the SOCKS proxy I have setup.

I am always interested in feedback so please feel free to add any comments, or you can mail me  here.  If you would like to submit a quick tip  with full credit and links back to your site then also feel free to contact me.
