Was Google Irresponsible?
There was a security flaw recently made public in Fortnite on the Android platform, and Google decided to make it public.
Google announced the flaw on Friday (24th August), it appears the installation can be hijacked and allow the attacker to install Malware onto the device. It needs a separate installer as they decide not to put it on the Google Play Store, this way they can keep more of the money from the game, very smart from their point of view, and yes this could be sour grapes from Google as they are no doubt losing a lot of money.
The big question is should Google of contacted them first and given them the opportunity to fix this and get a fix out before making it public?
It has been reported Google shared the flaw on the 15th of how this can be exploited, and Epic started on a fix.
Google have done this before with other big tech brands and those are well documented.
I can see both arguments, yes they could of given them some more time, but if it is an important vulnerability then it's in the public interest to get it out there.
It's good Google spotted the flaw, but do they do this on all software in the Play store as I remember seeing a stat a couple of years ago that said 50% of the software on the play store contained malware of some description, this may of well changed over the years.
