There’s an odd assumption that the world of fashion has spread about geeks: Geeks are supposed to be cute girls wearing a statement t-shirt, a large pair of glasses and preferably only a pair of pink knickers and socks. In truth, while they are cute geeks, their main characteristic is that they don’t look like a Victoria’s Secrets model. For a start, they are probably able to do more with technology than posting almost nude selfies on Instagram – but being a geek doesn’t mean that you can’t. It just means that your interaction with technology is a little more complex than click and post. Geeks are people who understand tech or computers – preferably both – and who enjoy using them. You can still do in in t-shirt and socks if you choose so, but in the end, tech beats fashion. Sorry to bring it to you like that if you happen to be a 16-year-old wearing proudly a GEEK top above your mini skirt, but if you didn’t get the memo about technical knowledge, then you’re not a geek. Now if you are nodding along as you read – welcome to the geek club, if there is such a thing – you may be wondering what is the best way to celebrate Easter with exciting geek eggs. Here are our three favourites.

Let The Keyboard Do Its Magic
If you are a Lord of the Rings adept, you will have probably noticed the themed timeline calendar to your Mac. All you need is to load Terminal, and to type the lotr script. This was released in 2012 as a way for Apple to celebrate the fans of Middle Earth. The Easter egg was hidden within the OS X’s Unix architecture, giving you a detailed list of the major events associated with lotr, from when the Fellowships enters Moria to the beginning of the Quest.
A Gadget To Fly Your Mind Away
If you are looking for an Easter egg that will take you outside the house, don’t look any further: Drones are just the thing for you, assuming you enjoy remote-controlled gadgets. It’s always a little tricky to pick the right drone when there are so many on the market, so you might want to have a look at RC Hobby Review, a website that loves to anything and everything in the world. They’ve produced a detailed review of the best drones for under $1000 – that would be about £800 here – so that you know where to start. Their favourite is the DJI Phantom 3 Professional 4K that comes with a camera too. With drones, you need to be aware that you are not allowed to take pictures of private properties so don’t fly above the neighbours’ gardens or your local shopping centre to put it in other words.
The Book Or Statement That You Need In Your Life
Finally, if you’re after a gift that will put science back into your life, check the xkcd store with some of the best statement t-shirts and mugs from the cartoonist Randall Munroe. You can also get his latest books, What if? which provides answers to absurd scientific questions and the Thing Explainer – that explains all the things. Needless to introduce xkcd, the brilliant stick figure webcomic that mixes romance, sarcasm, math and language. We bet you know all about it already!
