Amazon Prime Now... My Experience

Amazon Prime Now... My Experience

I have been wanting to use Amazon Prime Now ever since it was launched, if nothing else just for the novelty factor of ordering something from Amazon and then have it delivered within a couple of hours.

Now to be honest I had forgotten about it really, because when it was first launched you had to have a minimum spend of £50 and the range of items available wasn't that great.  I know recently  the minimum spend was reduced to £20.

The ordering started as I was talking to a colleague and he was saying that his Macbook had just stopped working, and he had an appointment at the store to see about getting it fixed, explained although inconvenient not too bad as everything was backed up.  That's when I remembered I had not backed up my Macbook Air in something like two months.  Luckily don't store personal stuff like music of photos on here but still used for work projects so it would be a pain in the behind.  I was navigating through Amazon looking at drives, when I was looking through my phone for another app and I saw the icon.  The little lightbulb in my head went off and the little bit of excitement that I could try out the service, have the drive in a couple of hours and have piece of mind that I will have a recent backup.

After looking around, I chose on these items, I ordered a hard drive and a case to carry it in.  The order was placed at around noon, I was told that the 1 hour slot was unavailable and that I could pick the next range of delivery time slots.  The next one was 2-4pm, so I selected that and waited.

A couple of hours later, I got a notification to say my delivery driver is close and showed a map that he was at the end of the road.  Around 10 minutes later I got a text to say my item had been delivered.  I went down to the post room to find a very nice brown paper bag, perfect folds with no creases in it (I have OCD about these things).  No extra packaging or stupid size boxes you sometimes get with Amazon orders.

So for first impressions is it's a great service, very simple and does exactly as advertised.  The only thing I do find strange is that this order I have done through the app doesn't show in my recent orders within my main Amazon account. Not sure if this is by design and you need to use the app for this, I find it strange that it doesn't show them up as they are all still my Amazon account.

There may be some of you out there that doesn't realise you have this available to you if you are a Prime subscriber, there were a couple of people I mentioned it to wasn't aware, I would recommend you try it out.  Also if it's not available in your area yet, be worth checking back regulary as they may expand out.

I am always interested in your thoughts so if you have any comments or feedback then please feel free to add any comments, or you can mail me  here.
