Playstation Network

Well as everyone is aware now about the issues that have affected the Playstation Network.  So after six days they have announced that quite of bit of personal information has been taken by the "hackers".

They have said that the following information has been compromised

  • Name
  • Address (city, state/province, zip or postal code)
  • Country
  • E-mail address
  • Date of birth
  • PlayStation Network/Qriocity passwords and login
  • Handle/PSN online ID

They have said there may be the possibility that credit card/payment information may also of been compromised, they can't say for sure if it has or not, personally I think that it all would of been taken and users should take all precautions available.

I have spoken to a couple of friends who do have Playstation accounts, and they are very annoyed to put it mildly, their main concern is that is has taken Sony this long to annouce this privacy breach.  They feel that from the start they should of been told that there personal information may of been compromised, they feel that with all the technical people at Sony it would not of taken them 5-6 days to figure this out.

So now most users will have to contact their banks and credit card companies to cancel the cards, check payments leaving the accounts, and for a few this may be a bit late as there is a possibiltity that some payment information would of already been passed on.  I would also be guessing that a good number of users on the PSN will use the same password on their PSN account as they do for many other online services.

One interesting thing I did read about the information being compromised is that Sony has advised the PSN users to change your login credentials to the network, could be difficult as the network is still down, and they are not sure when it will be back up !!!!.  I think overall the general consensus to this is a major FAIL for Sony.

I am always interested in feedback so feel free to add any comments, or you can mail me  here.
