How to recover forgotten MySQL User Passwords

Recently I needed to know a user schema password because of a third party supplied script, but I didn't know it.  To get over this, I got the hash from the user table and then popped over to https://crackstation.net

The site has precomputed rainbow tables for MD5 and SHA1 hashes.  Within a second the password popped up and we could run the script.  This is a new system so we couldn't just change the password while we are understanding the new system.
