Disable File locking on Lion

Lock FilesEver since I have upgraded to Lion there has been this little thing that has been bugging me.  When ever a file has not been edited in 2 weeks then the file is locked.  The always catches me out, as some documents I only update monthly, and I always start typing then I get the alert.

You then have to click unlock or duplicate etc, it could be handy for some but I just find it annoying.

Well there is a way you can either change this to a longer time, shorten it if you so wish or disable it all together.  It's not obvious where you can find this, you need to go into Time Machine Preferences.

Click on your time machine icon, and select "Open Time Machine Preferences".  Once you open it you have the screen below.

Time Machine Preferences

Once you have this screen, click Options, you then see the screen below.

Options

As I mentioned you have different options you can change it, they are

  • 1 Day
  • 1 Week
  • 2 Weeks (Default)
  • 1 Month
  • 1 Year

Or you could like me just disable it by removing the tick from the box.

I am always interested in feedback so please feel free to add any comments, or you can mail me  here.  If you would like to submit a quick tip  with full credit and links back to your site then also feel free to contact me.
