So just uploaded a piece of code up to my private Github, have not done this for a while and I recevied the following via email.
You recently used a password to access the repository at hiddenname/private with git using git/2.14.4.
Basic authentication using a password to Git is deprecated and will soon no longer work. Visit https://github.blog/2020-12-15-token-authentication-requirements-for-git-operations/ for more information around suggested workarounds and removal dates.
So it appears they will be doing away with the basic authentication of username and password. I will be looking into setting up the 2FA on the account and moving to using keys to upload in the future. Should of done this a while ago I think, probably as I don’t upload very often I don’t really notice.
