Music Videos Won't play in iTunes

Recently I helped someone out as they were complaining that iTunes had stopped playing music videos.  The song would play in the background but no video was being displayed.

It's a simple fix as he had iTunes to play out of multiple speakers, as he has an airport express hooked up to his home stereo system.

In iTunes in the bottom right hand section on the screen if you have mutiple speakers available you have icons like the one below.

iTunes Speakers Options. If you have more than one selected then it looks like

Multiple speakers

If you click on the Blue icon it will show you what speakers you have selected

Speaker Choices

So if you set it back to just computer then your music videos will play.

Folders into the Dock - iOS5

As well as dragging your favourite applications down to the dock on your iOS device, you can also drag down a folder of your applications, so no matter what screen you are on, you can have a folder of your favourite applications.

On the right you can see I have a folder with the applications that I use on a regular basis, so this folder has been dragged down onto the dock,

To move the folder down its just the same as moving an application, press and hold an icon until it starts to wobble, then drag it down to the dock.  Once its there press the home button, and you are all done.

Quick Shutdown on Windows XP

Windows LogoIf you are in a real hurry and can’t wait to shut down fully, rather than just pull the plug to switch it off, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete then before you click on shutdown, hold down the CTRL key then click shutdown.

You will be faced with another dialog box saying use this as a last resort, then in a couple of seconds your machine will be shutdown.

Access apps directly from notifications on iOS5

Most of you know will know by now that once you have notifications on your screen from Missed Calls, SMS, Twitter replies, WhatsApp conversations etc etc, you can access the application directly from swiping the application icon.

So for example on my phone screen as you can see here, if I swiped the WhatsApp icon, it would then prompt me for my passcode.  Once I have typed that it it would load Whatsapp and take me to the conversation.

However I noticed the other day that it if you swipe on a missed call, it does NOT prompt you for the passcode, it will automatically dial the number straight back.  Once you are dialling the number you can't access the contacts etc, as it will prompt you for the code, but it will ring the person.  Now this is not a major issue I know, but strange how it will let you call somebody straight back without the passcode, when everything else requires it.

Eject a cd when eject button won't work

This is how you can eject a cd when the eject button won't work on your mac.  The ways I know you can eject a cd is:

  • Drag the cd from the finder to your trash can
  • Press the eject button
  • From Terminal type drutil tray open

If none of these work then you can reboot your mac while holding the left mouse button.  This will work on iMac's and Macbook Pro's.
